This extra virgin olive oil by Fragata Selection has medium pungency and showcases a wonderful fruity aroma. The flavor is desirable and uplifts the taste of simple dishes.

While pomace is meant for external application and cooking on high heat; extra virgin olive oil is the least processed and preferred for raw consumption like dressings and seasonings.

Our Review Factors

What were we looking for? We were looking for a fresh tasting olive oil with the signature grassy/peppery aroma.

The factors we tested the Fragata selection extra virgin olive oil on are –

1. Aroma

Although not as high and sharp as mustard oil, the pungency of extra virgin olive oil is also high. It is supposed to have a fresh, fruity aroma.

A stale olive oil will have an off-putting, rancid aroma.

2. Flavor

Freshness and intensity of flavor were checked. We wanted to see if it tastes rancid or has the characteristic fruity-bitterness? You know, just like biting into an olive.

3. Color & Consistency

Flowy, dense, cloudy, clear, yellow tones or green tones? We considered some important physical attributes while reviewing the olive oil.

Although color alone is not a parameter the oil should be judged on for quality, a good quality olive oil usually has a golden yellow-dark green color. The darker green olive oils taste more grassy and fruity. Yellow-hued olive oils are more peppery/spicier.

4. Others

Material of the bottle, secure lid/cover and legibility of the label.

Fragata Selection Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Detailed Review

The oil comes in a small, handy glass bottle which is easy to hold and pour from. The lid is easy to screw and unscrew and features a plastic nozzle. The only ingredient used is extra virgin olive oil.

How did we test this? After the product inspection and aroma-check, we conducted a taste test. We tossed together de-seeded tomatoes, basil, pepper, salt and olive oil. We did not clutter the salad with too many herbs or spices as judging the flavor of olive oil was our top priority. We also used it to drizzle on top of our hummus
