Summary

Sundrop Snacko Chaat Masala Sweet Corn is an easy-to-prepare snack. Although the corn were juicy and plump, the taste needs a lot of improvement.

Juicy, buttery, with a hit of masala– boiled sweet corn adds that natural sweetness to salad bowls, bite to cheesy sandwiches, and vibrancy to slices of pizza.

And when you can’t access fresh corn, RTE/packaged corn is the answer. Well, not always. Recently, Sundrop launched its version of this quick snack. In our Sundrop Snacko Chaat Masala Sweet Corn review, we take our readers through the key parameters (price, packaging, taste), an overview of how we prepared this, and our verdict.

Our Review Factors

What were we looking for when reviewing Sundrop Sweet Corn?

Ease and convenience of preparation, freshness, desirable taste and texture were some of our top parameters.

1. Taste

We were looking for fresh-tasting corn that had the natural sweetness. Since ready to eat corn is packed with liquid, did it take up the flavor of the liquid? What about the seasoning mix, was it balanced or oversalted?

2. Texture

Were the corn kernels soft, plumped, and juicy? Or dried and flat? Did the texture change after we heated them?

3. Other Parameters

The price, packaging, shelf life, ingredients were observed and recorded under this parameter.

Sundrop Snacko Sweet Corn – Detailed Review

Price + Packaging

A 121.5-gram pack is priced at Rs 30/- It has a shelf life of 9 months.

There are two sachets inside the main pack. One holds the corn kernels and the other has the seasoning mix.

Main Ingredients

Sweet Corn Pouch

Sweet corn (66.7%), Water, Iodized Salt.

Chaat Masala Seasoning

Iodized Salt, Spices & Condiments (Dried Mango Powder, Cumin Powder, Coriander Powder, Black Pepper Powder, Pomegranate Seed, Muskmelon Seed, Mint Powder, Ginger Powder, Nutmeg Powder, Chilli Powder, Caraway Powder, Bishops Seed, Clove Powder, Asafoetida) & Black Salt.

How we made it?

There are two recommended methods of preparation- in a microwave or on a stovetop.

We used the stove top method. In a deep vessel, we heated some water until it reached a boil. Once boiled, it was taken off the flame and we immersed the unopened corn pouch for three minutes.

After the three-minute wait, we drained the liquid and emptied the remaining contents (corn kernels) in a bowl. To this, we added 5 grams of butter (regular, salted butter) with the seasoning (which came with the corn), mixed well, and served it.

Aroma + Appearance

The corn kernels were a slightly deeper yellow than fresh ones and had a SOUR aroma. We also noticed a brine-like smell.

Taste + Texture

The corn kernels were fairly plump and had a juicy bite. Though the pack mentions there is no use of brine, there was a strong sour, salty aroma.

For those who do not know, bine is a heavily salted liquid used to preserve freshness of food. Used in many imported jalapenos and olives.

The corn kernels had a oddly sour taste, a pickle-like sourness. It did not feel fresh but had the natural sweetness. That said, this sweetness was overpowered by the sourness. Even after adding butter and the seasoning, this off-putting taste couldn’t be masked.

Final Words

Mishry’s experience with Sundrop Snacko Chaat Masala Sweet Corn was an average one. While the kernels are easy to heat up and they have a juicy, plump bite, the taste was peculiar and high on sourness. Even after adding the chaat masala and butter, the sourness doesn’t mask.
