Sheer Khurma literally translates to milk and dates. These ingredients are paired with sewai (vermicelli) and nuts.
In our review, we gauged the levels of freshness and sweetness. Were the nuts fresh or did they have a rancid aftertaste? What about the quantity of sugar?
Overall, is this a delectable dessert?
2. Texture
Kheer has a creamy, pudding-like texture. Typically, kheer is rich and milky with some crunchy bits of nuts and chewy raisins.

Suhana Sheer Khurma Mix – Detailed Review
Price + Packaging
A 150-gram pack is priced at Rs 85/-. The carton is purple and gold and the contents are placed inside a silver pouch. This has a shelf life of 12 months.
Main Ingredients
Sugar, Vermicelli, Cashewnuts, Almonds, Dry Dates, Raisins, Pistachios, Coconut, Milk Solids, Green Cardamom, Rose Petals.
This contains wheat, nuts, and milk solids.
It is devoid of MSG, artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives.
How we made it
Preparing Sheer Khurma using Suhana’s mix requires only two ingredients- milk and ghee.
As instructed on the pack, we added 3 tbsp of ghee with the entire pack of Sheer Khurma mix and let this saute for a minute. Then we added gradually a litre of milk and stirred this.
It is crucial to keep stirring as this will prevent the formation of lumps and ensure nothing gets stuck to the base or sides of the cookware. It took us approximately 15-20 minutes to achieve the desired consistency.
Aroma + Appearance
The aroma in both stages (pre and post-cooking) was dominant on the fresh sweetness of green cardamom with a very subtle fragrance of rose petals. Similarly, in both the pre and post-cooked stages, we could see a lot of pistachio bits, vermicelli, nuts, and rose petals.
Taste + Texture
The Sheer Khurma had come together really well in the 15-20 minute time frame. The vermicelli had cooked up well. This had a rich, creamy, and indulgent bite. The cashewnuts were added in halves with smaller bits of almonds. While we could not really see (or taste) the raisins, there was a substantial quantity of pistachios. This cooking process had softened the dates quite well. The Sheer Khurma displayed a variety of textures- from soft, fluffy vermicelli to crunchy nuts, and chewy dates.
Taste-wise, the Sheer Khurma was slightly high on the sugar. But other than that, this was a delicious dessert. The ingredients were fresh. The nuts lent their natural flavors, while the dates added a caramel-like sweetness. Another delightful surprise was that this did not have any industrial aftertaste or unnatural, synthetic flavors. Thumbs up.
