Cadbury Temptations Chocolates Review – Rum & Raisin + Almond Treat

Practicing what we preach, we picked up two chocolate bars by Cadbury from their Temptations range – Rum & Raisin and Almond treat. Earlier we reviewed two variants from the Madbury range and liked them for the unique flavors they offered. This time, we tried a premium range, and here is our Cadbury Temptations Premium Chocolates review.

These chocolate bars definitely justify the ‘premium’ claim via the packaging. The chocolate bars are first packed in a wrapper which is further placed inside a compact carton.

Cadbury Temptations Premium Chocolates have a shelf life of nine months. 

When it comes to chocolates that are labeled ‘premium’, the mouthfeel, smoothness, and texture become the key parameters of our review. This goes without saying but visual appearance, aroma, taste, and economic value are an equally significant part of the review. 

1. Main Ingredients

Before we get to the ingredient list, the fact that Cadbury uses 100% sustainably sourced cocoa is appreciated!

Rum & Raisin- Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Raisins (18%), Cocoa Solids, Milk Solids, Emulsifiers (442, 476). 

This variant also contains added flavors (natural, nature-identical, and artificial- rum, raisin, and ethyl vanillin)

Almond Treat- Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Almonds (17%), Cocoa Solids, Milk Solids, Emulsifiers (442, 476).

2. Taste

The taste of any chocolate bar significantly depends on the cocoa content. Dark chocolates typically have no milk solids, whereas milk chocolates must have at least 12% milk content. 

How do these bars taste? Are the nuts and raisins fresh-tasting?

3. Aroma

Do these chocolate bars have a lingering chocolate aroma? Any aroma of rum/roasted nuts? 

4. Texture

The ‘premium’ factor of a premium chocolate bar is the mouthfeel and the bite. Premium chocolate is typically made using only cocoa with a buttery smooth bite and a silky, shiny appearance. Do the Cadbury Temptations feel premium?

5. Crunchiness

Since raisins naturally do not have a crunchy texture, this parameter is for the second variant we reviewed.

Are the almonds used fresh? Do they retain the crunch? What about the quantity, is it adequate or too little?

6. Nutritional Information

Rum & Raisin- 494 Kcal, 61.8 grams of carbohydrates (53.2 grams of sugar), 5.7 grams of protein, 26.1 grams of fat, 66 mg of sodium. 

Almond Treat- 565 Kcal, 53.4 grams of carbohydrates (45.2 grams of sugar), 8.9 grams of protein, 35.1 grams of fat, 68 mg of sodium.

1. Rum & Raisin

Chocolate, rum and raisins are a classic combination. This chocolate bar has liberal amounts of raisins in it! We tasted a lovely, chewy bite in each square. Let’s dive deeper into the aroma, taste, and texture. 

This is a mildly aromatic chocolate bar. The aroma wasn’t too bold but it had a desirable presence. It was prominently that of raisins. Moving to the texture. As we mentioned above, premium chocolates have a melt-in-the-mouth, smooth texture. We liked how well Cadbury delivered on this claim. The raisins are soft, fleshy, and fresh. 

This sweetness of chocolate and raisins make this bar a bit sweeter than we’d like, but delicious nonetheless. The rum flavor made its presence felt but wasn’t overpowering.

2. Almond Treat

Cadbury Almond Treat was indeed a treat! As we’ve described in our older reviews, in case of nuts, roasting them enhances the ‘nutty’ flavor. This is due to the Maillard reaction. Sugar and amino acids react with the nuts when toasted and lend a more intense flavor!

The almonds have a crunchy bite and taste very fresh. They are coarsely crushed and have been generously added across the bar. Surprisingly, this is quite filling.

Despite sugar being the first ingredient on the list, this bar shows adequate levels of sweetness. The milk chocolate sweetness is marginally reduced, owing to the nutty flavor of almonds. 

Just like the first variant, the chocolate by itself has a very smooth and rich texture.

Cadbury Temptations Almond Treat is a decadent chocolate bar for everything from midnight cravings to adding over ice-cream scoops or oatmeal bowls.

Our Top Pick from this review is the Cadbury Temptations Almond Treat. Prepared with a rather generous amount of crushed almonds, this chocolate bar has a nutty crunch in each bite! What we liked even better was the freshness and nutty flavor the almonds had retained. That said, the texture of chocolate itself was premium too! In a word, this chocolate bar is HEAVENLY!

Cadbury Temptations Premium chocolates are superlative! Be it taste or texture, both variants are exceptional. The chocolate has a smooth silky texture and the additions (almonds/raisins) taste fresh and have retained their natural textures! Thumbs up from Team Mishry.
