Trick or Treat Fruit Roll-Ups

Remember the sweet-tangy mango slices we relished as kids? Better known as aam papad, this post-meal dessert is loved across age groups. If you’re curious to try other fruits prepared in this fashion, here’s a refined sugar-free product.

Trick Or Treat Fruit Roll Ups were recently launched and are marketed as a fruit bar that is made with ‘nani’s’ recipe. Free of refined sugar, sweetened with jaggery, and ‘all natural’ are some claims we decode in our Trick or Treat Fruit Roll Ups review.

Trick or Treat Fruit Candy Flavours – Detailed Review

Our review of each variant has been explained in detail below.

1. Strawberry

Price + Packaging

There are 12 pieces, each weighing 10 grams and priced at Rs 10/- The shelf life is six months. The Strawberry variant comes packed in a pink-purple wrapper.

Main Ingredients

Strawberry pulp (78%), Jaggery, Beetroot powder, Lemon juice concentrate, Fruit pectin, Rock salt are the only ingredients that go in the making.

Their claims of no refined sugar and no added color or preservatives are true. Big thumbs up from our Team.

Per 100 grams, this variant offers 307.7 Kcal, 72.9 grams of carbohydrates (of which 47.8 grams are sugar), 3 grams of protein, and 0.4 grams of fat. These are decent values, not too bad.

The what, why, and how of fruit pectin

Fruit pectin is a form of carbohydrate that is found in the skin and core of fruits. The primary function of this component is to help hold cell walls together. In its liquid form, pectin has the ability to create mesh or suspended pieces of fruit.

Most often, apple pulp and citrus fruits are used to make pectin and this is available in powder or liquid form.

Inviting aromas and eye-catchy packaging.

Aroma + Appearance

This had a deep brown hue and is a thin slab. When we took it out of the pack, it felt sticky but was soft, and easily moldable. A fresh, fruity aroma was observed.

Taste + Texture

This doesn’t have a smooth bite, not that we’re complaining. There is some graininess, identical to that of strawberry seeds. This is not a sweet SWEET fruit roll, it has a desirable blend of slight tartness, the innate strawberry-like flavor, with a rounded sweetness. This is to say, we really liked it.

2. Pink Guava

Price + Packaging

The price and shelf life are identical to the above variant, 12 pieces of 10 grams each priced at Rs 10/- with a six-month shelf life. Pink Guava fruit rolls were packed in a lime green and bubblegum pink wrapper. This color combination is quite attractive, as seen in the image below.

Main Ingredients

Pink guava pulp (77%), Jaggery, Beetroot powder, chaat masala, lemon juice concentrate, fruit pectin, and green chilli are the main ingredients.

Per 100 grams, Pink Guava has 295.8 Kcal with 48.4 grams of sugar. This means one fruit roll would have approximately 30 Kcal with 5 grams of sugar.

trick or treat fruit roll ups appearance
A look at the rich hues.

Aroma + Appearance

The hue was similar to Strawberry with a slight tinge of green. As for aroma, we were reminded of fresh guava slices sprinkled with salt and chilli powder. YUM.

Taste + Texture

In terms of texture, this was hardest of all the three variants we tried. Pink Guava was not as soft or moldable as Strawberry. That said, this was predominantly still chewy. It also had the graininess like guava seeds.

The natural flavor of guava was reflected boldly and beautifully. There’s also a mild chilli kick and well-balanced salt level. These enhance and bring together the overall flavor. What we liked most is the lip-smacking chatpata flavor this had, truly reminiscent of having a fresh guava with some chaat masala and chilli.

Taste- 4.5/5
Texture- 4.5/5
Ingredients- 5/5
  • Characteristic flavor of the fruit
  • Nice chilli kick
  • Flavors work really well

Prefer sweet treats laced with spicy or tarty flavors? We urge you to try Trick or Treat in Pink Guava.

3. Mango

Price + Packaging

With other factors identical to the above variants, this was packed in a green and yellow pack.

Main Ingredients

This is made with mango pulp (81%), jaggery, lemon juice concentrate, fruit pectin, and rock salt.

Per 100 grams, this offers 301.7 Kcal with 70.4 grams of carbohydrates (of which 50 grams is sugar), 2 grams of protein, and 1.4 grams of fat.

Aroma + Appearance

This had a fresh, sweet, fruity aroma. Unlike other variants we tried, this did not have a deep appearance. It was an opaque, vibrant yellow.

Taste + Texture

This had the smoothest bite of all three. Mangoes are naturally sweet and this also contains jaggery, but the sweetness was beautifully balanced. It was not overwhelming. This is one of the factors that made us go back for seconds. It does have that characteristic mango flavor without any artificial taste, we liked!

Taste- 4.5/5
Texture- 4.5/5
Ingredients- 5/5
  • 81% fruit content
  • Clean ingredients
  • Sweetened with jaggery
  • Soft, smooth bites
  • Visually appealing

Sure to be a hit among kids, these mango slices make for the perfect post-meal sweet treat.
