Summary

The momos are generously filled from end to end, and the stuffing is flavorful as well. The texture of the chicken needs some improvement, but we loved the soft and fresh-tasting paneer. The rating is for the Chilli Paneer variant.

Known for their cake mixes, Pillsbury recently launched momos in four flavors.

The unique part is that these momos come with a Magic Momo Masala which can be used as a garnish on momos or can be blended to make a thick dip.

  • How delightful is the overall bite?

In terms of texture, we’re examining two elements: the outer casing and the filling. For the chicken momos, we assess the juiciness of the chicken. In the case of the paneer momos, we examine the softness and freshness.

Pillsbury Momos – Detailed Review

As stated on the pack, there are 3 methods to cook these momos. These are:

  • Steamed
  • Pan-Fried
  • Deep-Fried

We used the pan frying method.

Both the variants include a sachet of the momo masala. The masala is orange in color and has a noticeable amount of black and white sesame seeds.

For our momo dip, we mixed this masala with mayo and it turned out into a nice, creamy dip. It has a spicy flavor with a delightful crunch from the sesame seeds. While it differs from the typical momo chutney, it’s still a tasty dip.

These momos are available in 4 variants – Veg Delight, Chilli Paneer, Chicken Delight & Chilli Chicken. We reviewed the Chilli Paneer and Chilli Chicken momos and the following segment holds all information on our overall experience:

How We Made Them?

We cooked the momos using the pan-frying method for our review.

Taste

Chilli Paneer has a lovely combination of savory, spicy, and slightly sweet flavors, and this momo was able to do deliver on all those lines well. The flavor of the filling feels exactly like having Chilli Paneer. The capsicum and spring onions bring in a lot of fresh flavors enhancing the overall experience further. The paneer tastes fresh too.

Texture

Similar to the above variant, the texture of the outer casing does not feel doughy nor it is dry. The small diced pieces of paneer are tender and extremely soft. Each momo is generously filled from end to end, and there are no empty pockets.

How We Made Them?

We opted for the pan-frying method to cook these momos.

Taste

Flavor-wise, we enjoyed the momos and the overall chilli-chicken taste was quite pleasant. We could evidently taste the flavor of spring onions and capsicum.

These momos carry hints of desi-chinese flavor. Desi Chinese is a unique flavor that blends the classic flavors of Indian spices with the bold and lively tastes of Chinese cooking.

Texture

The momos have maintained a consistent shape throughout. The outer layer is of medium thickness, not too thick that it feels doughy. As for the chicken filling, the texture lacked the expected juiciness. Nevertheless, the ratio of the filling to the casing was just right. These momos have abundant filling with no empty pockets to be found.

Taste - 3.5/5
Texture - 3/5
  • No empty pockets.
  • Flavorful seasoning.
  • Generously filled.
  • Uniform shapes.
  • Does not feel doughy.

We felt the chicken lacked the juiciness as we would expect it.

What’s Our Final Take?

Pillsbury’s latest ready-to-eat momos fared well in our review!

We tried two variants, Chilli Chicken and Chilli Paneer. The flavors are well represented in the taste, and the outer casing has a pleasing texture. All the momos are well-stuffed with filling, and we never felt like we were having any empty bites.

However, the chicken’s juiciness fell slightly short of our expectations, while the paneer’s freshness was commendable.
