Our Review Factors

When it comes to reviewing food products like Nutrabay Foods Peanut Butter or other kinds of nut butters, we follow a standard list of parameters.

The ingredient list, nutritional values, taste, and texture were tested.

1. Taste

Fresh, slighty salty with the natural, nuttiness of peanuts is what we were looking for. As roasted peanuts have a bolder nuttier flavor, we checked for that too. Sweetened using date syrup, how is the overall flavor profile of this PB?

2. Texture/Consistency

Was the consistency even throughout the jar? Or was there a layer of nut oil floating on top? Dry or smooth and creamy, how was this PB? Was this of scoopable consistency? How is the spreadability?

3. Nutrition Quotient

The nutrition quotient is sub divided into scanning the ingredient list and comparing the nutrition values with other brands of unflavored peanut butter.

4. Other Parameters

The price, packaging, and shelf life were checked.

Our Review Process

To test various aspects, we consumed this peanut butter with snacks and meals like a fruit dip, a smoothie, as a spread, and straight out of the jar.

Nutrabay Original Creamy Peanut Butter – Detailed Review

Price + Packaging

This peanut butter comes in a PET jar. A 400-gram jar is priced at Rs 349/- and has a shelf life of one year.

Main Ingredients

Roasted peanuts, dates syrup, Himalayan pink salt, and emulsifiers (INS 471 and INS 322)

The nutritional values are standard. We compared Nutrabay Foods Original PB to other date-sweetened peanut butter variants in the market and found that while the calories were almost the same, the macronutrient content was marginally different.

One serving of two tablespoons (32 grams) offers 185.55 Kcal with 7.84 grams of protein, 10.43 grams of carbohydrates, and 12.63 grams of fats.

We’ve definitely come across single ingredient peanut butter, in case of unflavored.

Date Syrup, all you need to know

How is date syrup made?

Boiled dates are chopped, pureed, and strained. The derived liquid is called date syrup. Date syrup is relatively more nutrient-dense as compared to honey and maple syrup as the former contains more than 200% potassium, calcium, magnesium against the fore mentioned liquid sweeteners.

Why are emulsifiers added and how do they impact us?

INS 471 is a multipurpose emulsifier derived from soybean oil. It is used as a thickening, anti-caking, and preserving agent.

INS 322 falls in the category of antioxidants and acidity regulators that prevents sugar crystallisation. In case of spreads, lecithin stabilises the product.

Their Impact

Both INS 471 and INS 322 have been passed by the FSSAI. However, there is a possibility of allergic reactions and it is crucial to check whether these additives are plant-derived or animal-derived.

Other than this, these are safe and have no known negative health effects.

Texture + Consistency

This was a creamy PB, it had a smooth texture. However, this was quite thick and dense.

When we tried to scoop some out with an apple slice, the apples were breaking. Similarly, on bread slices, this wasn’t the smoothest spread. When we added a tablespoon to our blender jar for making the smoothie, it was too sticky. We think this may be due to date syrup.

Taste

We have grown accustomed to sugar-loaded peanut butters, so for someone trying to make a slightly healthier switch, the taste of dates and peanuts might take some time to fully enjoy.

This is a fresh tasting peanut butter with a caramel-like sweetness, lent by the date syrup. This sweetness was balanced, not overwhelming.
