Our Review Factors
What were we looking for when reviewing Kibi Kibi Bliss Balls?
Taste and texture being the base parameters, we gauged these Bliss Balls for the ingredient list and nutrition values.
The flavor variants offered are Cocoa Cherry, Peanut Butter, Apple Cinnamon, Mocha, and Berry.
We checked to find whether or not the flavors do justice to the labels. Further, the strength and freshness of the flavors were gauged too. If two flavoring agents are used, are they in sync or does one overpower the other? Sweetened naturally using dates – how balanced are the sweetness levels?
Are these crispy balls or did they have a chewy, fudgy bite? Did they have a separate outer cover or was the texture the same, inside-out? Is the texture of the nuts apt or does it need improvement?
3. Nutrition Profile
Under this parameter, we gauged the ingredients as well as the macronutrient profile. Are the ingredients natural and nutritious or artificial? What about the calories? Sufficient for a snack, or too high? Is there a balance between carbohydrates, protein, and fat?
What do labels mean by nature identical flavoring substances?
Nature-identical or natural flavors do not have any significant nutritional values or impact on health. As explained by Harvard Medical, ‘This distinction between the origins of flavors has no bearing on how safe, healthy, or delicious they are.’
This means that flavors, whether chemically created or extracted from natural sources (plant or animal) do not determine if it is safe or not. The key purpose of adding flavors or flavoring substances is to make food products more appetizing while keeping calories in check.
As per FSSAI, ‘The presence of flavors in food due to carry over is allowed, if it is not prohibited in the regulations and is within the maximum permitted limits.’ The consumption of added flavors has not been linked to impacting health but consumption of large amounts may cause allergies and lung disease.
PS- natural and artificial flavors are both chemical compounds or mixtures of the same. The difference between the two is that artificial flavors are chemically synthesized rather than being extracted from natural sources.
4. Other Parameters
The price, packaging, shelf life were also recorded.
Kibi Kibi Bliss Balls – Detailed Review
The following section details our experience with all five variants.
PS – we did not order each variant separately. We ordered the variety box that had two pieces of each flavor.
1. Mocha Mania
Taste + Texture
Dates, chocolate, and coffee- this pairing is straight up lovely. The dates and chocolate added a delicate sweetness and a caramel flavor. The coffee flavor was intense but not bitter or acidic. The bite and mouthfeel were just like the above variants, chewy with soft, crunchy bites of seeds and nuts.
Dates, seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, chia), raisins (green, black), almonds, cashew nuts, cocoa solids (3.2%), pistachios, coconut desiccated, coffee powder (1.1%), honey, Himalayan salt, vitamin E.
Contains added flavor (nature identical flavoring substances: coffee)
- Excellent pairing of ingredients.
- Balanced but prominent coffee flavor.
- Fresh to taste
- No added sugar
Perfect for midday pick-me-ups, especially if you’re not big on ‘sweet’ sweet desserts.
2. Berry Bash
Taste + Texture
Sweet and tarty, we liked the fresh, berry-like flavors this variant showcased. The pumpkin seeds added a crunch and nuttiness. Despite having three sweet ingredients (dates, raisins, and berries), the sweetness wasn’t overwhelming. It was balanced.
Dates, raisins (green and black), seeds (pumpkin, chia), berries 10% (cranberries, goji berries, blueberries), cashew nuts, pistachios, pea protein isolate, honey, himalayan pink salt, vitamin E.
Contains added flavor (nature identical flavoring substance- berry)
- Balanced sweetness
- Chewy with nutty bits
- Good quality ingredients
If you like sweet and tarty flavors, this variant would be a good pick for you.
3. Cocoa Cherry Carnival
Taste + Texture
Primarily, this had a date-like brown shade. We could also see a generous quantity of nuts. Taste-wise, this was fresh and fruity. We couldn’t see or taste any cherries. Instead, we could taste a lot of raisins. The texture and sweetness were varying. This was mildly sweet but the bites that had raisins were sweeter. In terms of texture, this was jam-like and chewy. The chewiness was a result of the dates, while the berries added the jam consistency. This wasn’t too hard or too soft. The nuts and seeds retained the crunchy bite.
Dates, seeds (pumpkin, sunflower), raisins (green and black), cranberries, almonds, cashew nuts, pistachios, cocoa solids (3%), honey, himalayan pink salt, vitamin E.
This also contains nature identical flavoring substances- chocolate and cherry.
- Balanced flavor of both key ingredients.
- No rancid/stale/industrial aftertaste.
- Has textural variety.
Chewy, but also jam-like with a soft crunch in between. If this got you drooling, we’d recommend trying this variant.
4. Peanut Butter Blast
Taste + Texture
Unflavored, unsweetened peanut butter has an innate saltiness to it. This variant of Kibi Kibi Bliss Balls tasted similar. The sweetness was balanced, but had a delicate salinity. As for the texture, this was chewy and SUBSTANTIALLY nutty. The raisins also added some fleshy chewiness.
Dates, roasted peanuts (25%), raisins (green and black), pumpkin seeds, peanut butter (6%), cashew nuts, coconut desiccated, himalayan pink salt, vitamin E. It contains added flavor (nature-identical flavoring substances- vanilla)
Once again, the need to add flavors seemed unnecessary. The peanut butter, dates and nuts by themselves are very flavorful ingredients that do not need to be backed up by added flavors – nature-identical or artificial. That said, added flavors do not significantly impact the nutrition value.
- Defined peanut butter flavor
- Fresh tasting
- No added sugar
Love peanut butter? Safe to call this variant ‘peanut butter bites’.
5. Apple Cinnamon Cheer
Taste + Texture
As we opened the pack, we could sense an apple pie-like aroma. These ingredients are a classic combination, reminiscent of Christmas and winter time. This tasted fresh and the apple-cinnamon pairing worked well. It was sweet with a warm flavor of cinnamon. This had a fudgy, chewy bite with crunchy bites of nuts and seeds.
Dates, raisins (green and black), seeds (pumpkin, sunflower), almonds, cashew nuts, pistachios, coconut desiccated, honey, himalayan pink salt, vitamin E.
Contains added flavor (nature-identical flavoring substances- apple and cinnamon)
The ingredient list did not have apples or cinnamon, only added flavor. Moreover, we could not really taste the coconut or pistachios.
- Fresh taste.
- Lovely texture.
- Reminiscent of an apple pie.
- It doesn’t actually contain any real apples and cinnamon, it’s an added flavor.
Are apple pies your preferred dessert? This Kibi Kibi Bliss Ball variant is sure to win you over.
