A typical khaman dhokla has a nice camaraderie of sweet and salty flavor. The tadka of mustard seeds, curry leaves and green chili adds a burst of flavors as you take a bite. How was our experience with Gits Khaman Dhokla mix? Is the seasoning balanced? Also, does it showcase any raw besan flavor?

Price + Packaging
A 180 gm pack of Gits Khaman Dhokla Mix is priced at Rs. 70. It comes in a white and blue color carton pack. The shelf life it offers is 12 months.
The main ingredients used here are – Besan (chickpea flour 68%), sugar powder, and semolina.
It also contains salt, citric acid (INS330), sodium bicarbonate (INS500(ii)), asafoetida, turmeric and sodium acetate (INS262) (Acidity regulator).
The cooking instructions as mentioned on the pack is as follows:
- Add 30 ml (3 Tbsp) oil and 230 ml (1 ½ cups) water into the dhokla mix.
- Blend it gently until the batter becomes smooth.
- Now, grease a steaming tray with oil. Pour the batter into the tray.
- Steam it on high flame for 15 mins. Remove the cooked dhokla tray and cool for about 5-10 minutes.
- Finally, heat 30 ml oil and add 1 tsp of mustard seeds, sesame and fresh green chilli.
In addition, the pack also mentions instructions for preparing nylon khaman dhokla (but we are not following that). We did make a sugar syrup as mentioned on the pack.
How We Made It?
We used Solimo Kadhai Steamer for preparing our batch of dhokla.
All the instructions as given on the pack were followed using the exact same way. The cooking process is definitely easy and hassle-free. The batter looked super smooth and was free from lumps. It had a flowy consistency.
Texture + Appearance
The texture turned out just right. It is light, airy, and super soft. When we lightly pressed the dhokla, it springs back beautifully. We loved how springy the texture was.
Despite having the dhoklas after a few hours, the texture remains unchanged. It retains that soft bite. We loved that!
Appearance-wise, the top layer of our batch of dhoklas looked super clean and smooth. It looks quite similar to the ones that we get at most of the good-quality sweet shops.
A point of appreciation here is that there was no raw flavor of besan. It has the right proportion of sugar and salt. We loved how tasty the dhoklas turned out. You will not need to adjust the seasoning as its absolutely perfect.
All of these attributes, collectively, made Gits our Top Pick during the Instant Khaman Dhokla Mix Review.
