As the Indian summer sun blazes down, a cool, refreshing drink becomes a necessity. Lassi, a traditional yogurt-based beverage, transcends mere thirst-quenching. It’s a creamy probiotic powerhouse that’s kind to your gut. Epigamia recently launched a range of lassis in three tempting flavors: Mango, Strawberry, and Kesar (saffron) and we are reviewing two of them.

Our Review Factors

What are we expecting? Lassis with a fresh taste, balanced sweetness, delightful fruity notes and smooth consistency.

1. Taste

Our main focus is on the flavor and freshness of the fruit (mango/strawberry) and the sweetness level. Do they taste natural or lean more towards being artificial?

Is there a mild fresh curd-like sourness?

2. Consistency

The best lassi is the one with a creamy and thick consistency. It should not be so thick that it needs a spoon, nor it should be too watery/flowy. There should be a perfect balance.

Price & Packaging

The price of a 150 ml bottle is Rs. 30. This has a shelf life of 4 months.

This is made up of the following – Skimmed milk, water, sugar, milk solids, mango pulp(5%), stabilizer [ INS 466, INS451(i), INS415, INS440], Acidity regulator [INS 330, INS331(iii)], Nature identical flavoring substance (mango), colour (INS 102) and permitted lactic acid cultures.

This mango lassi delivers a burst of sunshine in every sip! The natural mango flavor shines through, avoiding any artificial sweetness. It’s a perfect balance of sweet and tart, where the delicious mango perfectly complements the refreshing tang of fresh curd.

This lassi has a slightly thicker consistency as compared to the strawberry lassi, but refreshing nonetheless.

Our Point Of View

Visually both the lassis are appealing. For someone looking for a better alternative to sugar-loaded soft drinks, this is an excellent pick which also offers higher satiety. However, it is still advisable to be mindful of the use of acidity regulators and stabilizers. Hence, it is best to restrict packaged drinks for occasional consumption.

For a refreshing experience, consume this lassi chilled.
