  • Dimensions and the thickness of both the pan and the cavity.
  • Design and quality of the handle. Is it detachable? How comfortable is the grip?
  • Sturdiness: What holds the handle and the pan together? Is the handle well riveted, or does it loosen after repeated use?
  • What is the material of the pan and handle?

2. Usability

The usability talks about how convenient and practical is the usage of this uttapam pan. How quickly does the pan heat up? Are the uttapams easy to flip? The capability of the non-stick coating is also gauged here. Additionally, does the handle heat up during the cooking process?

Here we expected the uttapams to turn crisp without sticking to the bottom. How easily does the uttapam release from the pan? Do they cook evenly from all the sides as well as from the center?

Packaging, warranty period, and price were the other contributing parameters.

Our Observations

What do we like about this pan? This pan comes with a detachable handle which ensures easy storage. The handle is easy to attach/detach.

We give full marks for the non-stick capability of this pan. The uttapams did not stick at the bottom and were easy to release.

Another plus point is that the pan heats up pretty soon. Despite the pan heating up, the handle did not heat up. It remained cool throughout the cooking process.

The best part was that the uttapams had browned up perfectly.

What could have been better? In terms of the thickness, this pan could have been better. The base is thin, the cavities are small in size and depth, which made it difficult to flip over the uttapams.

Uttapams are generally thicker (like pancakes) which is why we have to cook them on low heat for a longer period. But here our uttapams did not cook as well as they usually do on a normal non-stick pan. The cooking period was longer which made the uttapams harder. The edges did not crisp up, and neither did the centre remain soft/fluffy.

Design - 3.5/5
Usability - 3.5/5
Cooking Ability- 3.5/5
  • The handle is easy to attach and detach.
  • This uttapam pan is convenient to store.
  • The non-stick capability is excellent.
  • Comfortable grip.
  • The pan heats up quickly.
  • We appreciate that the handle did not heat up during the cooking process.
  • The size and depth of the cavity is quite small which made flipping the uttapams slightly difficult.
  • The handle is slightly loose and shaky.

This uttapam pan is a great pick to prepare small sized uttapam or pancakes for your kids. If you are looking to prepare large uttapams then this pan might not be the right pick for you.
