ID Whole Wheat Paratha

Sure, RTE meals are exceptionally convenient. Usually, all you need is some hot water, and voila! The meal is ready within a few minutes. The drawback to these- the additives, the preservatives, the artificial nasties, those you wouldn’t otherwise consume.

When we came across this RTE bread during our iD Homestyle Whole Wheat Paratha review, we were pleasantly surprised. Was it the flavor? The appearance? The ingredient list? Details down below.

Some must-know details are explained in the following table.

Our Review Factors

Our key parameters while reviewing iD Whole Wheat Paratha were taste, texture, and convenience. Plus points for a clean ingredient list.

1. Taste

From sabzis to dals and curries, plain parathas are undeniably versatile. We were looking for that homestyle freshness with just a sprinkle of salt.

How did iD Whole Wheat Paratha fair on this parameter?

2. Texture

Flaky, crispy, dry, or chewy? How were these parathas after heating them up? Did the texture change once they cooled down? Could we see the layers or was it dense and flat?

3. Convenience

How do you heat these up? How long does it take for the parathas to develop a golden-brown surface? In addition to oil/ghee, does this call for something else?

4. Other Parameters

The price, packaging, shelf life, and ingredients were taken into account here.

iD Whole Wheat Paratha – Detailed Review

Price + Packaging

One pack holding 6 parathas (of 65 grams each) was priced at Rs 75/-. This is a triangular pack. There were no sheets to separate the parathas but none of them were sticking to each other.

There is no manufacturing date mentioned, but a best before date is printed. We bought our pack on 28th February and the product needed to be consumed before 3rd of March. Such a short shelf life is also indicative of a clean, additive-free product.

Main Ingredients

Atta (whole wheat flour 51%), Ro-purified water, Edible oil (Rice bran oil), Iodised salt, Gluten and Sugar are the only ingredients used.

How did we heat the parathas?

As instructed on the back of the pack, we heated the parathas on a pan with some ghee for around a minute and served them hot.

Aroma + Appearance

These are half-cooked, triangular-shaped parathas. They have uneven brown spots, like half-cooked chapatis/parathas do. There were a few broken edges, but nothing too major.

Taste + Texture

They said ‘homestyle’ and these parathas are homestyle indeed. Be it taste or texture, they have that homemade touch to them.

We would like to add that the credit for its freshness and crispiness  goes to the ghee we added to cook them. It refreshes and livens up the RTE paratha.

The parathas were not so thick that they tasted doughy, but weren’t too wafery thin as well.

In terms of salt, the parathas are perfectly balanced. It wasn’t heavily salted so that it would not pair with pickles or sabzis, neither too light that one cannot relish them by itself.
