Doritos is popular around the world for their nacho chips. Adding to their existing  product line, they recently launched the Doritos Dinamita Tortilla Chips in India. 

For our Doritos Dinamita Tortilla Chips Review, we tested the Fiery Lime & Chilli variant and evaluated different parameters such as – flavor, texture, price and packaging. The rolled, cylindrical shape of these chips is rather unique, but is the flavor profile addictive enough for us to go back for these?

What exactly are we looking for? We expect a bag of crunchy chips with a tasty tangy-chilli flavor profile. 

The following parameters were set for Doritos Dinamita Tortilla Chips Review: 

1. Taste

The overall seasoning, the flavor of corn, spice lvels, and the intensity of the lime flavor were all evaluated here. 

2. Texture

Snacks taste great when they are crunchy and crisp. How bold is the crunch of these corn based chips?

Price + Packaging 

These tortilla chips have a bright purple and green color pack. Priced at Rs. 30 for 56 gm, it has a shelf life of 8 months.  

Main Ingredients 

The main ingredients are – Corn (77%), Edible Vegetable Oil (Palmolein Oil), *Seasoning (Maltodextrin, lodised Salt), Flavour (Natural & Nature Identical Flavouring Substances), Spices & Condiments, Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein, and Color (162). 

In addition, it has Sugar, Flavour Enhancers (627,631), Anticaking Agent (551), Milk Solids, Dextrin & Edible Vegetable Oil (Palm & Sunflower Oil), Color (124).

Decoding flavor enhancers and colors: 

INS 627 (Disodium Guanylate): It is a food additive used to improve the flavor of any food product.

INS 631 (Disodium Inosinate) : This food additive is used to give food a meaty and savory taste. 

E 124 : It lends a bright red color to food and drink products. 

E 162 : Also known as beetroot red, this color is extracted from beet root.

Aroma + Appearance 

These are rolled up sticks made of corn. These chips resemble a lot like the popular Mexican chips Takis. They have a fiery red color. Each of these corn dynamites are generously sprinkled with the masala. The lemon-chilli aroma was prominent here.

Taste

In terms of flavor, this snack is moderately spicy with an extremely strong lime flavor. The fresh sourness from the lemon seasoning got mixed reviews amongst our tasting panel. While some loved it, some couldn’t bear more than a bite. People who are sensitive to sour flavors might certainly dislike this.

There was no noticeable aroma or flavor of the fat used. These are very well seasoned and have medium spice levels.

Texture

These corn-based dynamite-shaped chips have an addictive crunch.

We are quite pleased with this bag of newly launched Doritos Dinamita Tortilla Chips. It’s a crunchy snack made with 77% corn. The only aspect that we believe may be improved is the flavor, as there is a slight imbalance here. While it has an extremely strong lime flavor, the chilli heat is moderate.
