How did we review this?
We followed the instructions given on the carton. For this, we cleaned and washed 100 grams of arhar dal, cooked it with 600 ml water, turmeric, and salt.
For the tempering, we took some ghee, cumin seeds, green chilli, onion, tomato, and a teaspoon of Catch Dal Tadka Masala. The cooked dal was mixed into the tempering, cooked on low heat, and served.
Aroma + Appearance
The appearance and aroma were gauged in two stages, before and after cooking.
Stage 1- the powder had a coarse texture and was an ashy brown. We could sense bold notes of coriander and black cardamom.
Post-cooking, the dal took on the classic yellow hue, owing to the addition of turmeric. It mixed seamlessly and did not form any lumps.
Exceptional. First class. Top notch. No, we are not exaggerating, this dal masala did lend beautiful flavors to the dish. We did add some salt, gradually, as per taste. But other than that, the masala had a balanced, well-rounded, desirable flavor. The spices had their strong flavors intact, and added warming notes, elevating the flavors even further. It must be noted that this warmth is not the same as the heat or spice coming from an ingredient like red chillies.
What we liked best is that using a spice blend like this one eliminates any chances of inconsistency in flavors.
- Clean ingredients
- Detailed cooking instructions
- Lovely flavor
- Super convenient
A novice? Looking for a head start? Need a quick meal? We recommend trying Catch Dal Tadka Masala.
