How close can a store-brought tub of sour cream come to the authentic counterpart? We gauged this in terms of taste and texture.
1. Taste
Sour cream has a subtle tartness, a mild sourness with the richness of cream. And yes, this sourness is very different from when dairy products go bad.
We tested this dip with a variety of ingredients and bases to gauge the taste and freshness.
2. Texture
Under texture, we checked the creaminess, spreadability, how dippable this sour cream was, and the eveness of texture throughout the jar.

This comes in a black tub with a lid. It holds 200 grams of product and is priced at Rs 65/- with a shelf life of three months.
Main Ingredients
Milk solids and active lactic culture are the only ingredients used. No additives or preservatives have been added.
How did we test this?
Stage one was tasting the sour cream as is. Then we reviewed it as a dip with Cornitos Nachos, followed by using it as a spread with some buns.
Aroma + Appearance
The top layer looked very well set. It had some liquid on top, like homemade dahi does, but it wasn’t substantial. This sour cream had a stark white appearance with milky notes.
Taste + Texture
First things first, the clean ingredient list was impressive. This unsalted sour cream has no preservatives, or color, or any other additives.
As instructed, we stored our tub of sour cream under refrigeration. It must be allowed to sit at room temperature for a few minutes, as the spreadability becomes smoother. Like a dip, this scoops out effortlessly. This was thick but dippable, almost perfect we’d say.
In terms of flavor, the freshness was at peak. It had an extremely mild sourness, exactly like it is supposed to. We quite liked the rich milky flavor it had which would paired fairly well with the nachos, the buns. Alternatively, the taste and texture of this cream would elevate a basic pasta sauce or chicken dish too.
